San Jose Project: Website and Branding Redesign
San Jose Project — Branding & Digital Redesign
What's the problem?
San Jose Project (SJP) is a nonprofit dedicated to bridging the city and community through a day of service, beautifying and improving in-need schools in San Jose. Within a 12-hour design challenge, the organization needed a refreshed brand identity, website redesign, and social media strategy to better communicate its mission and engage the community.
What do we want to achieve?
• Create a modernized brand identity that reflects the organization’s purpose.
• Revamp the website with a focus on donations, clarity of mission, and events.
• Establish a social media presence to grow awareness and engagement.
What are challenges we faced?
• Time constraints of the 12-hour challenge.
• Budget limitations for premium WordPress themes and design assets.
What was part of the team and what was my role?
I worked as a UX/UI Designer, collaborating closely with one product designer and one brand designer. Together, we combined our expertise to create cohesive and user-friendly design solutions.
How was the process I followed?
The process began with discovery and research, where I met with the client to understand their pain points and goals, identifying three key website issues: the donations page, clarity of the mission, and calendar visibility. Moving on to brand identity, I sketched several logo concepts and presented two variations, ultimately finalizing one design in collaboration with the client. For the web redesign, I selected a free WordPress template to accommodate budget constraints, then sketched multiple site flows before creating high-fidelity prototypes. Lastly, the social media strategy involved launching an Instagram channel with curated content and an initial set of 50 photos to foster community engagement.
What was the final solution?
• Delivered a new website featuring a simplified donations tab, clear calendar of upcoming events, and icons to illustrate the organization’s mission.
• Designed a new logo aligned with SJP’s community-focused brand.
• Launched an Instagram presence to strengthen outreach and connect with volunteers.
